Unserer Meinung nach gibt es in Gigondas keinen talentierteren Winzer als Louis Barruol und sein Château Sainte Cosme. An dieser Stelle seien natürlich noch die Weine von Yves Gras und Santa Duc erwähnt – beide Winzer markieren für uns zusammen die Spitze der Appellation!
Zurück zu Sainte Cosme: der 2012er Jahrgang ist da und Louis Barruol hat einmal mehr sein Talent unter Beweis gestellt.
2012 Gigondas - Château de Sainte Cosme
Der 2012er Gigondas wurde aus 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 18% Mourvèdre und 2% Cinsault von 25 verschiedenen Parzellen gekeltert. Louis Barruol hat 70% für 12 Monate im Fass ausgebaut.
Eine traumhafte Vegetationsphase kennzeichnete den Jahrgang. Ganz im Gegensatz zum 2011er Jahrgang hatte es Louis Barruol mit dem 2012er Jahrgang wesentlich einfacher. Alles in allem ein äußerst harmonischer Jahresverlauf mit einer perfekten Blüte, Reifephase und einer ausreichenden Wasserversorgung. Am 10. Oktober startete die selektive Handlese von perfekt ausgereiftem Traubenmaterial.
Louis Barruol selber ist sehr zufrieden mit der Qualität und verweist auf die Frische und „Leichtigkeit“ des Weins. Obwohl 14,5% auf dem Etikett stehen, müssen wir ihm da restlos zustimmen, für einen Wein mit solch einem Alkoholgehalt verkostet sich der Wein in der Tat recht frisch und leicht.
Schon im Glas ein wunderschön animierendes, glänzendes Rubinrot, in der Nase dann der reichhaltige Duft von vollreifen Erdbeeren, Himbeeren, Veilchen und einer Prise weißem Pfeffer. Louis Barruol verzichtet bei der Abfüllung auf eine Filtrierung und der Wein gibt ihm Recht.
Mit einer animierenden und multidimensionalen Struktur überzeugt der Wein mit klaren Noten von Erdbeerkompott, Trüffeln und Tabak. Das ganze in Union mit der kongenialen Mineralität des Grenache, der saftigen Knusprigkeit des Syrah, der scheinbar unbändigen Kraft des Mourvèdre und der Eleganz des Cinsault stehen hier Pate für ein echtes Meisterstück.
“Moving to the releases in barrel, the 2012 Gigondas (60% Grenache and the balance mostly Mourvedre, with some Syrah) has plenty of potential, with juicy black raspberry, sweet spice, licorice and toasty notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. Nicely balanced, it shows the purity of the vintage, as well as a relatively approachable style that should allow it to drink nicely on release.
Without a doubt, the leading estate in Gigondas is Louis Barruol’s Chateau Saint-Cosme. Located just outside the village, he releases an assortment of world class Gigondas, as well as a number of value priced, negotiate-styled Cotes du Rhone efforts that always deliver high-quality (these are normally released under his Saint-Cosme label and do not say Chateau Saint-Cosme). Both 2011 and 2012 are incredibly strong here and readers should not miss these wines! The three single vineyard releases are basically 100% Grenache, from unique terroirs, that are brought up all in Burgundy barrels, 30% being new, 40% 1-year-old and the balance 2-3-year old.”90-92/100 Punkte – Unsere empfohlene Trinkreife: 2015-2023

2012 Gigondas Hominis Fides - Château de Saint Cosme
"Despite coming from sandy soils, the 2012 Gigondas Hominis Fides has a masculine, structured and almost burly profile. Underbrush, black raspberry, crushed rock, pepper and black licorice are just some of the notions here, and it hits the palate with full-bodied authority and richness.
